One gym in Grand Rapids, Michigan is using PowerPlay to equip athletes and expand their business with what they call their “Recovery Lounge.”
Before or after workouts, Alpha members can take advantage of this special area of the gym dedicated exclusively to recovery. It’s equipped with comfortable loungers and various compression wraps for just about every joint and problem area.
“Having a recovery lounge at Alpha has been a big deal. We try to educate our athletes on the importance of recovery since it goes hand in hand with training. PowerPlay helps our athletes target specific joints for cold compression therapy.”

Equipping Athletes with Accessible Cryotherapy
Alpha founder Daimond Dixon developed his Recovery Lounge based on a desire to provide a more holistic training experience for his clientele.
“I’m from the 80s,” Daimond explained. “We didn’t have these kinds of recovery tools back in the day. Even now, a lot of athletes are training, but they aren’t learning how to train.”
Daimond spent much of his career as a high school athletic trainer, teaching kids how to take care of their bodies before and after training. After launching his commercial gym, he realized that many athletes of all ages are missing basic knowledge about proper recovery.
“The general public, when they hear recovery, they don’t know what it means,” he said. “It’s not until they actually do it that they begin to see the benefits.”
He recalled one notable example of a gym member who was preparing to play professional basketball but was plagued by sore knees after a full college athletic career. He would use traditional ice bags, but it wasn’t until he tried PowerPlay’s cold compression knee wrap that he began to see immediate results.
“It had an unreal effect. He said it was the best his knees had ever felt in a post-ice session,” Daimon shared. “Instead of a cold bag sitting on top of his knees, the intermittent compression ‘massaged the cold’ into his knees and increased circulation as he iced.”

After a workout, athletes can select a cold compression wrap, grab a pump, plug in, and settle in for an automated 20-minute cryotherapy session — it’s that easy.
For Daimond, PowerPlay’s iceless gel packs were also the clear choice for his gym.
“I’ve seen other products that use ice, and there’s always water everywhere. PowerPlay is a better product that’s much more user-friendly for our athletes.
Expanding Business with PowerPlay
PowerPlay’s cryotherapy options have clearly created added value for Alpha’s gym members, and they provided a unique offering for the Grand Rapids area.
When Daimond launched the Recovery Lounge, he only offered two free sessions per month. It was so popular, however, that he soon began to offer unlimited recovery for gym members.
“It’s a key selling point we hammer home to athletes considering joining Alpha. It’s a big added boost for our members: constant access to training and recovery.”
Alpha’s Recovery Lounge has also created opportunities to expand the business beyond the usual gym clientele. It’s already captured the attention of running clubs and cyclists — people who otherwise might not spend much time in the gym. These groups will often book recovery sessions following runs and other special events.
